Pioneer Day

Matt and I both got Pioneer Day off of work and decided we would take Nathan to the pool for the day.  Unfortunately it was actually rainy and cool that day and the water at the pool was freezing!  We only managed to tough it out for an hour and a half before Nathan's lips turned blue and he kept telling us how cold he was.  So he headed home and put Nathan down for a nap instead.

Even though the pool was a bust Nathan was super happy when he woke up and we had so much fun that night.  While Nathan slept Emily and I decided to make ice-cream pie in honor of "pie-oneer day" (Yes we know we get our cheesiness from our dad).  We made mint and moose tracks pies and even made our own oreo crust!  And then we bought my dad a real pie because ice-cream pie is really our cooking limit.  We got KFC with my family and then let Nathan throw poppers.  The kid was a popper machine, I couldn't believe how much he loved it.

After the poppers Matt helped Nathan hold a sparker which he went insane over!  So then he had to light six sparklers and laughed and cheered through the whole thing.

So at this point we thought he is going to absolutely LOVE fireworks.  So we let him stay up for the yearly firework show at my parents' house.  We got Nathan so excited until the first firework went off and Nathan began to cry.  Then my dad lit off the second firework and Nathan went into full on panic mode and started to scream and cry.  So Matt put Nathan to bed who was so grateful to be in his bed and fell asleep instantly and we stayed up to watch the rest of the fireworks.  It was such a fun Pioneer Day and so fun to spend the entire day with my little family!
