Logan's Birth Story

I had been scheduled to be induced for a couple of weeks but the time was still tenative and just depended on how busy the hospital was.  But knowing the date for so long had me in a full panick my last week of being pregnant.  I ended up leaving work early Thursday afternoon because I couldn't focus and was just so done.  The hospital called us that night to say that everything looked good for us to be at the hospital by 8:00 but to call in and verify the next morning.

I think I got about three hours of sleep that night and finally just got up at 5:30 that morning and called in to the hospital.  They said everything was good for us to come in and to be there by 7:30 instead.  So I woke Matt up early, we got all ready, said goodbye to Nathan and headed out just before 7:00 to pick up my mom when the hospital called and said not to come in and to call back at 9:00.  So we headed back home and waited until 9:00 and when I called back in they said not to call back in until 10:00.  We were so worked up and anxious at this point that I couldn't stand it so my mom and I headed out to Shopko with Nathan and Matt turned on his video games.  We got to Shopko at 9:45 but weren't worried because we thought no way will they have us come in yet after delaying us all morning.  Well sure enough just because we hade other plans they had us come in at 11:00.

We got to the hospital and got all checked in and they took us back to the delivery room.  We were so surprised when they took us to the same delivery room where we had Nathan.  Matt and I looked at each other and both knew and at that point we both calmed down and knew it was going to be okay.  We got an awesome nurse named Sadie who got us back and settled and got me started on pitocin within 15 minutes.  At that point they checked me and I was dilated to a 3.

My doctor came to break my water around 12:30 and I had only progressed at a 3.5.  She broke my water anyway because she is awesome and told the nurse to get me my epidural because I would need one at this point.  I am so grateful she did that because as soon as my water broke the contractions became crazy intense.  Sadly the anesthisiologist was horrible and totally impatient with me and kept getting mad at me for not "relaxing" while I was having contractions stacked on top of each other.  It was still worth it though because it kicked in immediately and I felt so much better.

Sadie came to check me at 3:00 and I had only dilated to a 4 and when she told me Matt and I just about died and thought oh great, its going to be a long delivery just like Nathan.  I was feeling so discouraged at this point and then my epidural started wearing off.  I called the nurse and they said I had to be monitored for an hour to make sure it had really worn off before they could give me more medication.  That hour was so long and my poor mom sat next to me the whole time talking my ear off trying to distract me.  My contractions were coming every 30 seconds and lasting two to three minutes a piece.  At an hour right on the dot Sadie called the anesthisiogist back and I got more medication which immediately started working again. I told her how much pressure I was having and she decided to check me again.  In that hour I dilated from a 4 to a 10 and was ready to push!

Sadie called my doctor who said she would be there in half an hour so we decided to wait.  Matt and I were so relieved and excited that we would be meeting our baby soon and that it was not going to be 10 hours later.  My doctor arrived around 4:30 and we started pushing.  I only pushed three times and little Logan Daniel was born at 4:49!
